How to Clear Samsung Phone Auto Storage

Here is a Samsung tip that you may not have known of. If you had every turn on auto storage for your phone. Or if you phone came with this feature enabled it may need clearing. Your phone, like any computer system, will have many log data stored or compressed. Hence, these can slow down your phone, make the battery drain faster or even retain personal information. That is, information that will be within your phone for a long time. So, no doubt it is important to clear phone auto storage at some point in your ownership.

So how can we get rid of this log? How can we go about removing all auto stored data from our phone and get it all cleaned up? Let us look into how we can achieve this. This is done on the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 plus (also capable on almost all Samsung and other android phones).

Clear Phone Auto Storage on Samsung

  • Open up your phone and go to dial
  • Then, type *#9900#
  • This will automatically open up system dump. See below:

  • From here press on the “Delete Dumpstate / Logcat. You will get a prompt window indicating – Delete Dump!
  • Next, press “Ok”. You are done.

So in summary, what just happened is that all the unnecessary stuff that was on your phone has just been deleted. Therefore, your phone is now free of all auto stored data.

What is Delete Dumpstate/Logcat?

The Dumpstate / logcat files are files that are stored on the /data/log partition. So, unless you root your phone, you and none of the apps on your phone will have access to it. However, dialing the command above and selecting Delete Dumpstate/Logcat will allow you to clear the logs even if your phone was not rooted. As made mention, this works on the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus. Also, this works on many other Samsung phones.
