Windows Storage Sense Option

Turning on Storage Sense on Windows

Are you aware that there is a Windows storage sense option on Windows 10? A storage sense option that allows you to have your computer automatically free up space? Well there is such a feature and in this article we will look a bit at this feature.

The feature is meant to, as said before, automatically free up space on your computer. It does this by getting rid of files you do not need. Files you do not need include temporary files and content in your recycle bin.

Once you access and turn on this feature it will free up space only when your PC is low on space. This will prevent your apps and programs from crashing and help you to save important work.

How to Turn on Storage Sense for Windows?

  • On your desktop, right click and select Display Settings
  • Navigate to the Storage option located under System
  • You will now be looking at the Storage Sense feature. This is automatically set to Off. From here you can turn it on:
Storage Sense menu on Windows Operating System
Settings Menu on PC showing Storage Sense option – read more about using disk management here.

Once this is turned on your computer will maintain itself by removing unwanted files and content. As a result your computer will keep running in good standing. However, if you wish to clean up unused files now, you can select Configure Storage Sense. Also, you can select run it now > Clean now.

As soon as you access the Storage menu under Systems you will see a layout of storage used. This will include Apps & features, Documents, Desktop, Temporary files and many more. All these locations will show the storage being used. You can then decide if you want to free up space or not.
